Institute for Talented Students (formerly CTY Bermuda)

After 16 years, CTY Bermuda has reverted to its original name, Institute for Talented Students. The Institute will continue to work with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) on talent identification and will continue directing students to CTY summer programmes in the United States.

Institute for Talented Students, founded in 2002 by Riquette Bonne-Smith, operated under that name for its first five years and produced a very successful programme during that period, after which it changed its name to CTY Bermuda.

Our focus on gifted and highly motivated students will continue while we will broaden our vision by opening our ITS Bermuda Centre for Mathematics to meet the needs of the growing number of students on the island who are in need of improving their mathematics skills.  The ITS Bermuda Centre for Mathematics division will provide students an opportunity to increase the challenge beyond the standard curriculum.

 ITS Bermuda will:

  • offer a strong after-school programme that provides in-depth study in Mathematics, Science and Writing at an accelerated pace. Students must test into the programme by performing at least two to three grades above their age-based grade level.
  • hold its annual Math Olympiad in association with the University of Waterloo in Ontario Canada.
  • hold its Science and Engineering Day.
  • hold its Talent Search using the School and College Ability Test (SCAT) offered by CTY.

Through the ITS Bermuda Centre for Mathematics, students will learn to gain confidence in themselves as they will be taught to appreciate mathematics through hands-on experience in the tech environment. Their experiences in this enriched setting will greatly enhance their skills in all courses from Pre-algebra to Calculus.

We have served the Bermuda community very successfully for 16 years through commitment and sacrifice. We will continue to need the financial support of our sponsors. As we all know, quality education is essential for a successful economy, which in turns increases opportunity, prosperity, and growth for all of Bermuda.
